Research project

2019

Project3-9.jpg

This project focused on involving caregivers better in the rehabilitation process of patients living in nursing homes. The onset for this research was the fact that caregivers are involved in the rehabilitation process of patients but there seemed to be an opportunity for better involvement and coordination of caregivers in this process.

The research was done through means of interviews with caregivers, nurses and patients in 3 different nursing homes. As a result, 2 preliminary concepts were proposed in a collaborative session with a caregiver, nurse and therapist.

Eventually, through clustering, discussion and cocreation, six design guidelines were set up for designing a product or service that stimulates the involvement of caregivers in the neuro-rehabilitation process. We proposed 2 imaginary studies within our research which adhered to the guidelines created. The results were shared with the nursing homes involved.

What I learned:

  • Collaborative session (focus group)

  • In depth interviews

  • Interview clustering and synthesizing

  • Design guidelines

  • Imaginary studies
